Empire State Games Information

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
An athlete who wishes to participate in the Empire State Games must by February
11, 2007 obtain or
maintain membership in:
- One of the following local biathlon clubs: Lake Placid, Polar Bear (Old Forge), Saratoga, Syracuse, or Western New York. Each Club will submit a membership list to the Biathlon Chairman on or before February 11th .
- NYSSRA Nordic
- US Biathlon Association at a competitor or supporter level. Boy/Girl athletes may join at a “Member for a Day” level.
POINTS LIST
Everyone who participates in an ESG qualifier event will be awarded qualifying
points based
upon their finish, NYSSRA Nordic members will receive additional Marksmanship
points. Separate points lists will be maintained for males
and females in Boy/Girl, Youth, Junior, Senior, and Master competitor classes, as well
as the novice class. The points list will be posted on the
points page by the Wednesday after the race.
QUALIFICATION
STANDARDS FOR ESGs
To qualify for participation in the Empire State Games a biathlete
must:

Scholastic (age 12 through HS) - Finish at least two qualifying races and be ranked within the top 13 males or 7 females on the points list will qualify to compete in the Empire State Games Races. Scholastic competitors will receive an ESG warm-up suit.

Open (Post HS - 39) - Finish at least two qualifying races and be ranked within the top 13 males or 7 females on the points list will qualify to compete in the Empire State Games Races. Open class competitors will receive an ESG warm-up suit.

Master (40+) - All masters who meet the finish at least two qualifying races will by default automatically qualify to compete in their respective age class. Masters will compete in two divisions Masters (40-49) and Grand Masters (50+). Masters wishing to compete in the Open class must declare their intention to the biathlon chairman no later than February 1st. Masters who choose to compete in the Open class will not be eligible for Masters age class medals. Masters do not receive ESG uniforms, but may purchase one during designated times outlined by the ESG organizers in the letter to the competitors.

Note: Masters who declare their eligibility in the Open class must also compete in the Open class in all Nordic sports for which they qualify.

Only athletes who have their own rifle will be eligible to compete in the Empire State Games.

All athletes who qualify for the Empire State Games and wish to compete must notify the chairman of their intent to compete by February 12th. Online registration will be available to all athletes who qualify following the final ES qualifier of the season.
EMPIRE STATE GAMES EVENTS
FRIDAY 2/22 - Sprint with 2 shooting stages. Open and Masters Men (10 km); Open and Masters Women (7.5 km); Scholastic Men (7.5 km); and Scholastic Women (7.5 km)
SATURDAY 2/23- Pursuit with 4 shooting stops. Open and Masters Men (12.5 km); Open and Masters Women (10 km); Scholastic Men (10 km); and Scholastic Women (10 km)
